Our Guide to the GoPro Mountain Games
One of the most popular events in Vail during the summer is the GoPro Mountain Games! This event brings together athletes, spectators, and vendors from all over the world for a weekend of non-stop action and excitement.
About the Games
The GoPro Mountain Games, hosted by the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation, is back for the 22nd season in Vail from June 6th to June 9th, 2024! This weekend-long event is a celebration of adventure sports, music, and art. View or participate in sporting events like biking, running, climbing, kayaking, rafting, SUP, fishing, disc golf, and or yoga. There is an event for all ages to enjoy! Your young one can even participate in a Bike Race, Climbing race.
If you’re bringing your dog to Vail, they can participate in events as well! The GoPro Mountain Games have five events that are for dogs. If your pup isn’t very athletic but still likes to go out and hang out with their humans, they can come to be spectators to the events! Throughout the day you can enjoy free live music in the Mountain House Gear Town in Vail Village and The Hangout at Golden Peak. Then at the end of the day, after all the competitions are over, you can head to the General R. Ford Amphitheatre and enjoy the Mountains of Music Series. Tickets are required to attend the Mountain of Music Series concerts.
We cannot forget about all the amazing art installations that are scattered across the different event venues. Art is a huge part of the mountain lifestyle, and the Mountain Games wants to combine artistic influences with competitions.
One of the most unique aspects of the GoPro Mountain Games is the camaraderie and community spirit among the athletes and spectators. The event brings together people from all walks of life who share a love of outdoor sports and adventure. There is a sense of mutual respect and support among the athletes, who push each other to be their best, and among the spectators, who cheer them on every step of the way.

Thursday, June 6
Day one of the games is jam-packed with a variety of games starting at 8 am! Enjoy the dog events DockDogs Outdoor Big Air Wave and the Dueling Dogs practice and qualifying rounds throughout the day. You can also enjoy the children's climb and the women's qualifying round of the North American Cup Series. There are also biking and kayaking events in the afternoon. In the evening, the Rocky Dog Fun Run starts at 6 pm, and the first concert of the Mountain Music Series with Xavier Rudd and Mike Love starts at 7 pm.
Friday, June 7
The second day of the games is another great day of entertainment and adventure! Catch the continuation of the qualifying rounds for the Dog events: Dueling Dogs and Dockdogs Outdoor Big Air. The first fishing event is happening today with the Yeti Catch Wars, and you can see the continuation of the North American Cup Series, Qualifying Round. Multiple kayaking events are also happening today! Once the day is done you can head to The Amp and catch Lotus and Daniel Donato's Cosmic Country performance at 7 pm.
Saturday, June 8
Saturday’s events start at 7 am with the Ovis 2 Fly X-Stream Casting Competition Qualifiers! Saturday is filled with events in every category happening today. You can catch more rounds of the Dueling Dogs qualifiers along with some Kayaking, Rafting, Biking, and SUP races. The family-friendly Nature Valley Mountain Mud Run is also happening this Saturday afternoon! This is a great race for your family to participate in or you can watch the run from the sidelines. You can also view some final rounds for the Optimum Nutrition Kayak Freestyle, Ovis 2 Fly X-Stream Casting Competition, and the North American Cup Series. End the day by enjoying live music by Dispatch and Andy Thorn & Friends at 7 pm.
Sunday, June 11
The final day of the event means the day of finals! The finals that are happening today are the DockDogs outdoor Big Air and the Dueling Dogs Finals at 3 pm and 4:30 pm, respectively. Earlier in the day you can catch some 10k & 20k races, and kid competitions including the GoPro Youth Climbing and the Gates Kids Bike Race. You can also enjoy the last rounds of the Disc Golf Tournament, SUP Surf Cross, Mountain Groove Yoga, and the Pacifico 8-Ball Kayak Sprint.
